Oczy Hanny rozszerzyły się ze zdumienia. Niedźwiedź, który wcześniej był dzikim i defensywnym stworzeniem, teraz poruszał się z nieoczekiwanym spokojem, jakby próbował ją gdzieś zaprowadzić. Jego spojrzenie nie było już groźne – przeciwnie, wydawało się świadome, niemal inteligentne, cicho zachęcając ją, by poszła za nim. Hanna szepnęła: “Zobaczcie, on chce, żebyśmy za nim poszli.” Zaskoczeni policjanci zamarli, ich dłonie odruchowo powędrowały do pasów, gdzie wisiała broń, gotowi do działania, lecz nie byli zdecydowani, jak powinni postąpić. Jeden z funkcjonariuszy ostrzegł: “Proszę Pani, to może być niebezpieczne.” W jego oczach malowała się ta sama niepewność, która wypełniła całe pomieszczenie. Jednak to, co wydarzyło się chwilę później, całkowicie zmieniło sposób, w jaki wszyscy postrzegali tę sytuację.
