Gdy spojrzenia Jonathana i psa się spotkały, mężczyznę poruszyła niezwykła łagodność, jaką emanował zwierzak. W jego oczach płonęła cicha dobroć, która wzbudzała zaufanie. Jonathan z lekkim uśmiechem zaczął ostrożnie rozkładać materiał, pod którym skrywało się maleństwo. Nie widząc w labradorze żadnych oznak niepewności, pozwolił mu zbliżyć się i samemu ocenić sytuację. Pies nie zdradzał najmniejszych oznak napięcia, co upewniło Jonathana, że jego decyzja była słuszna. Zrezygnował z kontrolowania przebiegu wydarzeń, zdając się całkowicie na naturalne odruchy zwierzęcia. Myśl, że wszystko powinno potoczyć się dobrze, przemknęła mu przez głowę. Nie wiedział jednak, że los szykuje niespodziewany zwrot, który wystawi jego ufność na próbę.
