Ten dzień obfitował w emocje i niepewność, a zmęczenie powoli przytępiało czujność Jonathana. Skupiał się całkowicie na delikatnym stworzeniu, które tulił w ramionach, nie zwracając uwagi na otoczenie. Nie zauważył momentu, gdy z tylnego siedzenia zaczął zbliżać się labrador, który wcześniej leżał cicho i nieruchomo. Pies spojrzał z zainteresowaniem na małego pasażera, którego Jonathan tak pieczołowicie chronił. Na początku uznał to za naturalne – zwierzęta często okazują troskę wobec słabszych istot. Jednak już po chwili poczuł niepokój – spojrzenie psa nie przypominało opiekuńczego gestu. To, co wydarzyło się zaraz potem, całkowicie zbiło młodego mężczyznę z tropu i pozostawiło w stanie głębokiej konsternacji.
