Jonathan nie znał jeszcze natury tego, co przyszło mu chronić, ale jedno było pewne – musiał działać szybko. Ostrożnie ułożył stworzenie w swojej torbie, przekształcając ją w prowizoryczne nosidło, które miało zapewnić mu choć odrobinę wygody. Cienie pomiędzy drzewami zaczęły gęstnieć, a światło słoneczne gasło w błyskawicznym tempie. Las cichł, a czas działał na jego niekorzyść. Mimo zmęczenia szedł naprzód z narastającą determinacją. Czuł, że ta niewielka istota potrzebuje go bardziej niż kiedykolwiek. Nie wiedział, dokąd zmierza ani z czym przyjdzie mu się zmierzyć, ale miał pewność, że nie zostawi jej samej. Nawet jeśli droga okaże się trudniejsza, niż mógłby przypuszczać – nie cofnie się.
