In de periode na zijn professionele voetbalcarrière, die recentelijk eindigde bij Al-Shahania, past Nigel de Jong zich nog aan zijn nieuwe levensfase buiten het veld aan. Zijn dynamische speelstijl, bewonderd in heel Europa, had hem zelfs naar Amerika geleid. Zijn levenspartner, Winona Leefland, leerde hij reeds in zijn vaderland kennen. Hoewel het voor haar aanvankelijk geen liefde op het eerste gezicht was, veroverde Nigel haar hart na een aantal ontmoetingen. Drie jaar geleden bezegelden zij hun relatie met een huwelijk, wat Nigel niet alleen tot een ster op het veld maakte, maar ook tot een toegewijde partner thuis. Nu de spotlights gedimd zijn, geniet hij van zijn rol als liefhebbende echtgenoot.
