Tennessee – Thomas Frist, Jr. & Family – $8.2 Billion
One of the nation’s biggest beneficiaries of the Affordable Care Act, Thomas Frist’s fortune has increased alongside the shares of his hospital conglomerate, HCA Holding. A former Air Force flight surgeon, he founded Hospital Corp. of America with his father in 1968 and took it public for the third time in 2011 after two management buyouts. Brother Bill Frist was Senate majority leader.
