Zbigniew Boniek to niezwykle ważna postać w polskiej i międzynarodowej piłce nożnej, który zasłużenie znalazł się na liście stu najlepszych piłkarzy w historii światowego futbolu FIFA (jako jedyny z polskich piłkarzy ). W reprezentacji narodowej zadebiutował w wieku 20 lat i był uczestnikiem 3 turniejów finałowych mistrzostw świata. W reprezentacji rozegrał łącznie 80 meczów, a zdobył 24 bramki.
Na początku lat 90. rozpoczął karierę trenerską, pracował następnie jako selekcjoner kadry narodowej, a potem jej trener: łącznie poprowadził kadrę w 5 spotkaniach. Jako drugi Polak w historii, Boniek wszedł w skład Komitetu Wykonawczego UEFA. Zbigniew Boniek mieszka w Rzymie, posiada dwa obywatelstwa: polskie i włoskie.
