Sarah Jessica Parker begon op jonge leeftijd te trainen als ballerina. Toen ze slechts elf jaar oud was deed ze mee in haar eerste Broadway productie, The Innocents. Drie jaar na deze rol speelde ze in Annie.
Ook speelde Parker in films als Footloose en Ed Wood, maar ze is uiteindelijk pas doorgebroken met de show S** and the City uit 1998. Dankzij haar is Carrie één van de meest bekende vrouwelijke karakters op TV. Ze heeft zelfs twee film vervolgen nadat de show was geëindigd. Momenteel speelt ze de hoofdrol in Divorce.
