When it comes to soap legends, few shine brighter than Barbara Knox. She joined “Coronation Street” in 1964 for a single episode, but by 1972, she was back for good as Rita Tanner, the flame-haired singer and shopkeeper with a heart of gold. For over five decades, she ruled the cobbles, becoming one of Britain’s longest-serving TV stars.
Her powerful storylines, heartbreaks, marriages, and even car crashes kept viewers glued to their screens. Off-screen, she received an MBE in 2010 for her services to drama. With wit, warmth, and that unmistakable Northern sparkle, Barbara has become a true national treasure of British television.
