Słowa specjalisty nie tylko zaskoczyły Jonathana, ale wstrząsnęły nim do głębi. Zwierzę, które zabrał z lasu w nadziei na ocalenie, powinno było pozostać tam, gdzie zostało znalezione. Ta świadomość spadła na niego jak zimny deszcz, gasząc wcześniejsze poczucie dumy. Od zawsze wierzył, że jego rolą jest niesienie ratunku – że pomoc to wartość nadrzędna. A jednak teraz okazało się, że jego gest mógł zakłócić naturalny rytm dzikiej przyrody. Dopiero rzeczowe słowa lekarza otworzyły mu oczy – czasem brak działania jest największym wsparciem, jakie można okazać. Od tamtej chwili postanowił, że zanim po raz kolejny wyciągnie pomocną dłoń, upewni się, czy jego ingerencja rzeczywiście przyniesie dobro.
