Jonathan miał jeden cel: wrócić do miasta, nie spuszczając oczu z psa ani na moment. Od chwili, gdy się spotkali, wiedział, że nie może go opuścić – ta odpowiedzialność stała się jego ciężarem i zobowiązaniem. Brak auta znacząco utrudniał sprawę. Wiedział, że pokonanie dystansu pieszo będzie wyzwaniem – czekały go godziny marszu przez odludne i trudne tereny. Mimo to ruszył przed siebie, mając nadzieję, że los zetknie go z kimś gotowym pomóc. Myśli krążyły wokół możliwych rozwiązań, a każda nowa koncepcja była jak światełko w tunelu. Jonathan wiedział, że póki stawia kroki naprzód, ma szansę. Czas był bezlitosny, ale jego determinacja – silniejsza.
