Gdy Jonathan przekroczył próg lecznicy, trzymając swoje znalezisko, liczył na szybkie wyjaśnienie i ulgę. Diagnoza jednak zburzyła jego nadzieje i potwierdziła to, czego po cichu się lękał. Zwierzę, które uznał za porzuconego psiaka, było w rzeczywistości czymś zupełnie innym. Tulona przez niego istota nie należała do żadnego znanego, oswojonego gatunku. Jonathan czuł, jak zastyga w oczekiwaniu, gdy weterynarz szykował się, by powiedzieć coś ważnego. Czuł, że to, co za chwilę usłyszy, zmieni sposób, w jaki postrzega całe to niecodzienne spotkanie.
