Los tres papeles le valieron la aclamación de la crítica y también ganó un Globo de Oro por su papel en Voyage of the Damned en 1976.
La mujer de 78 años tuvo que llamar cuatro veces a su abogado de divorcio pero consiguió encontrar el amor verdadero con Sam Elliott con quien se casó en 1984. El año pasado, protagonizó The Hero junto con su marido.
