Thelma Lou fue considerada una vez como la encantadora chica de al lado en su mejor momento. Aunque empezó a actuar en el mundo sin rostro de la radio como parte de un reparto de un drama diurno en Kansas City, su belleza pronto se convirtió en una sensación a través de The Andy Griffith Show (1960) y sigue siendo una de las favoritas de los fans de Mayberry en las reuniones y convenciones del programa hasta hoy. Cuando Thelma tenía sólo 18 años, entró en una gira de la United Service Organization para el China Burma India Theater.
Como parte de las actividades de la gira, Lou visitó a pacientes de hospital y cantó para ellos. Ahora a los 92, Lynn sigue soltera pero ha compartido que una vez se comprometió.
