Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala “China Doll”
The 2015 Met Gala, themed “China: Through the Looking Glass,” wasn’t short of daring looks, but Kim Kardashian’s left jaws on the floor. Ditching subtlety, she embodied a vision of a glamorous, crystal-encrusted porcelain doll courtesy of Roberto Cavalli.
The dress itself was a barely-there masterpiece. Sheer fabric, embroidered with a constellation of crystals, left little to the imagination. Delicate feathers added a touch of whimsy, but the overall effect was undeniably striking. Kim even cited Cher’s legendary Met Gala debut gown as inspiration! Whether “China doll” was the most culturally respectful interpretation of the theme is debatable, but one thing’s for sure: Kim Kardashian wasn’t there to blend in.
