“Questo anello apparteneva a mia madre,” insisté Lydia, le dita che serravano il gioiello.
Il gioielliere scosse la testa, sfiorando una pagina ingiallita del registro estratto dalla cassaforte. “Impossibile. Fu rubato nel ’62, lo stesso giorno in cui…” La voce gli si strozzò.
Un crepitio secco squarciò il silenzio. La vetrina aveva una crepa a ragnatela, proprio davanti al riflesso di Lydia.
“Allora chi me l’ha messo nel cappotto?” chiese, la voce che le tremava.
Lo specchio alle sue spalle rispose al posto del gioielliere. L’immagine di Sara – giovane, sorridente – sollevò una mano appannando il vetro con un dito.
“Io.”
Il registro cadde a terra con un tonfo sordo. La data sul timbro: 12 ottobre 1962 – il giorno della nascita di Lydia.
