La fine della tempesta
Il gioielliere posò una mano tremante sulla vetrina. “Tua madre non rubò mai nulla per cattiveria ma per amore: mi aveva lasciato el lettere affinché se un giorno tu fossi tornata a cercare l’anello almeno ti potessi dare quelle”
Lydia riconobbe all’istante la grafia sulla lettera ingiallita: era sua madre. Le parole danzarono davanti ai suoi occhi: “Per la mia bambina, quando avrà abbastanza coraggio per perdonarmi”.
Dentro c’era anche una fotografia sbiadita dal tempo: lei da neonata, tra le braccia di sua mamma giovane.
“Il vero furto,” sussurrò il gioielliere, “fu portarle via questo ricordo. Ora l’anello ha compiuto il suo viaggio.”
Fuori, la pioggia cessò dopo trent’anni di tempesta.
