Robert Downey Jr. hace malabares cantando, actuando y produciendo para el trabajo. Su gran sueldo proviene en gran parte de su papel como Iron Manen el Universo Cinematográfico deMarvel. El Guardian informa que la cuenta bancaria de Downey está preparada para acomodar 75 millones de dólares adicionales de la película de 2019, Los Avengers: Endgame.
Esto se debe a un contrato de reparto de beneficios que Robert tiene con Marvel. Hasta 2018, las producciones de Downey Jr. han recaudado más de 4.500 millones de dólares en la taquilla de EE.UU. Fuera de Marvel, también ha ganado mucho dinero. Se dice que ha ganado un récord de 15 millones de dólares con Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, una película de acción de 2011.
