Met de overstap van Merel in 2014 naar RTL kwam er een enorme doorbraak in Merel’s leven. Uiteraard mag een goed slaris niet ontbreken bij zo een grote stap. Ze trad in de voetsporen van Suzanne Bosman voor het RTL Nieuws, waarna ze in 2019 door ging met RTL5 voor de presentatie van het praatprogramma Ladies Night. Ze is niet meer zo vaak te zien bij RTL. Mogelijk heeft dit te maken met het feit dat ze in 2021 de moeder werd van hun kind Billie Mae. Merel heeft de gewoonte om te leven met een maandsalaris van tienduizend euro in de maand. Nu moet Merel kiezen: doorgana met geldverdienen of zich totaal te wijden aan een gezin.
