Matthijs werd door Nederland beroemd door zijn functie als presentator van een onwijs beroemde praatprogramma “De Wereld Draait Door.” In het jaar 2020 beïndigde hij de edities van DWDD en startte met andere praatprogramma’s. Zijn nieuwe show is genaamd: “Matthijs Gaat Door!”. In Nederland wordt Matthijs beschouwd als een zeer gewaardeerde en gerespecteerde verslaggever en televisiepersoonlijkheid. In verband met het vijftigste levensjaar had hij een intervieuw met Máxima in mei 2021. Ten tijde van DWDD bedroeg zijn maandopbrengst ongeveer 44.000 euro. Ruw geschat is dat ongeveer een half miljoen op jaarbasis! War zijn volgende job hem zal opbrengen, is uiteraard onbekend.
