When Richard Branson, Virgin Group’s daring founder, first laid eyes on Joan Templeman in the 1970s, he was instantly smitten. They met at The Manor, Virgin Records’ recording studio, where she ran a nearby antique shop. Rumor has it the entrepreneur made countless visits just to see her, eventually charming his way into her heart.
In a grand gesture, he even bought Necker Island in 1979, hoping to impress her—and it worked! The two married on that very island in 1989. Their family includes daughter Holly, born in 1981, and son Sam, born in 1985. Known for their low-key, rock-solid partnership, Joan has been his quiet anchor.
