Andrew McCarthy cresceu em Nova Jersey e sempre sonhou em se tornar um ator. Ele teve a sorte de conseguir seu primeiro papel no filme Uma Questão de Classe, que foi lançado em 1983. Sua carreira cresceu depois de fazer os filmes O Primeiro Ano do Resto de Nossas Vidas, Manequim e A Garota de Rosa Shocking. Seu papel mais recente foi na série televisiva The Family. O ator admitiu uma vez que fora um alcoólatra em sua juventude, mas ele acabou ficando sóbrio depois de entrar em uma clínica de reabilitação de álcool. McCarthy deve ter feito uma nova abertura de conta bancária quando começou a trabalhar como editor da revista National Geographic, ao menos sua renda aumentou com certeza.
