Ze bereikte bekendheid met haar rol in de TV serie Dawson’s Creek en vanuit daar kreeg ze onmiddellijk grote rollen in Hollywood hits zoals Wonder Boys, The Singing Detective en Batman Begins. Ook was ze van 2006 tot 2012 getrouwd met Hollywood ster Tom Cruise, wat veel aandacht trok. Tom en Katie hebben samen een dochter genaamd Suri Cruise.
Holmes was recentelijk te zien in Ocean’s Eight, een film uit 2018 met een cast van alleen vrouwen en er wordt gezegd dat ze in nog op zijn minst vijf aankomende projecten betrokken is. Katie kocht deze Calabasas villa in 2014 voor $3,795 miljoen.
