Why the Amish Are Laughing All the Way to the Bank

The Original Farm-to-Table Foodies

Eating green and organic may be trendy now, but for the Amish, it’s simply the way things have always been. Long before “farm-to-table” was a buzzword, Amish families were growing their own produce and raising food free from chemicals and preservatives. Even those who aren’t farmers often keep their organic gardens, filling their tables with fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits.

They even have a term for their love of good food—“freinschmeckers”—a nod to their deep-rooted appreciation for simple, wholesome meals. The Amish were living the organic life and savoring farmers’ market fare long before it hit mainstream menus, embracing sustainable eating in the truest sense.
