Loosely inspired by true events and based on actual personalities, Stage Beauty is a story about the first female actor in British theatre and how she managed to go from a theatre dresser to getting the role of Desdemona in Othello; replacing the male actor she once worked for.
The two lead actors, Billy Crudup and Claire Danes, actually fell in love in real life. Billy left his then-pregnant long-time girlfriend to be with Claire and they later became a couple. All in all, the film is a very nice and romantic period drama.
