Hana didn’t hesitate. With swift, practiced motions, she looped the rope around the tree, securing it with a firm knot. She checked the tension, making sure it would hold. “Peter, the rope’s ready,” she called, her voice steady despite the urgency. “Start handing them up. I’ll catch them.” “Here comes the first one!” Peter’s voice came back, and Hana braced herself.
The first creature appeared, carefully cradled in Peter’s jacket, its small body trembling. As it was lifted closer, Hana reached down, gently lifting it. Relief surged through her when she finally pulled the trembling creature to safety, its terrified eyes wide but no longer trapped in the darkness.
