When Queen Elizabeth II began her rule over the United Kingdom in 1952, she had no idea she would one day (by 2015) be the longest-reigning British monarch. She rules over Australia, Canada, New Zealand and other Commonwealth nations who have since gained independence. Queen Elizabeth II isn’t about to hand over the mantle to her next kin and she still reigns over the English throne.
