Devido à sua voz e carisma únicos, as pessoas frequentemente acreditavam que Rick tinha origem afro-americana. Ele parou de cantar quando tinha 27 anos, pois queria passar mais tempo com sua família.
Oito anos depois, ele decidiu voltar ao mundo da música, continuando seu trabalho nessa área. Ele deve ter procurado abrir uma nova conta bancária para o segundo capítulo de sua carreira. Rick tem sido o tema do meme viral da internet conhecido como “rickrolling”.
