Believe it or not, stork and pickle do make a fine pair, said Vlasic Pickle founders Frank and Joe Vlasic. That wasn’t always the case when the family first used a zinger ‘Vlasic Stork’ to represent their Polish pickles in glass jars. Over four decades ago, at the height of the economic boom and birthrate decline, the ‘spokes-bird’ mirrored legends of storks bringing babies. They shrewdly incorporated that with pregnant women and their superior pickle-craving. The marketing stunt was a total sell-out, along with their crunchy catchphrase, “Vlasic is the best tasting pickle I’ve ever heard.”
