Folorunsho Alakija is one of the wealthiest people in Africa. She took secretarial studies at Pittman’s Central College in London, as well as fashion design at the American College and the Central School of Fashion, both in London as well. In 1993, she received a license to explore possible oil sources in a massive Nigerian land, along with Texaco. When oil was found, the government tried to reclaim the land, but after 12 years in court, Alakija won, and she now sits on a huge $1.7-billion fortune. Forbes named her as the 87th most powerful woman in the world.
