The star of the first Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory couldn’t (and shouldn’t!) be forgotten. Gene Wilder left a legacy behind, both as an actor and as a writer. But even before developing Alzheimer’s disease and dying from its complications, Wilder had faced problems stemming from substance abuse. Apparently, he wasn’t able to check himself into a rehab control center in his much younger days. Reportedly, Wilder, in his deathbed, was listening to his favorite song, Over the Rainbow, when he peacefully drifted off to his permanent sleep.
