W latach 1971–1984 był napastnikiem polskiej kadry narodowej, w której miał co najmniej łącznie 100 występów. Jest niezwykle aktywny: był przewodniczącym Klubu Wybitnego Reprezentanta, senatorem, wchodził w skład Komisji Emigracji i Polaków za Granicą oraz Komisji Nauki, Edukacji i Sportu.
