Frustrado, se inscribió en una clínica de reducción de peso en 2009, para bajar de peso. En 2015, se sometió a una cirugía de bypass gástrico por segunda vez para reducir su peso entre 66 y 77 libras.
Las fuentes dicen que Maradona está sano y en gran forma en estos días. Sigue trabajando en el campo del fútbol, ya que el club mexicano Dorados lo contrató como su entrenador en septiembre de 2018.
